Volunteer Assignment 1:

Dear councilor,

My name is Cameron Stickney and I live down on Maple Street, not too far away from              where you reside. We the residents of Maple Street have a beautiful street where kids ride their bikes, friends play street games, where I taught my daughter to ride her bike. There is a family that just had a baby and every night they go on walks and push their baby in the stroller. There are two 70 year old women that go on their daily mornings walks that I always say good morning to when I’m sending my children off to school. It’s a beautiful street.

Unfortunately, it’s a beautiful street that has been ruined by dangerous potholes. These potholes have made it so the street is difficult for the residents to do any of the aforementioned activities. More recently however, my next door neighbor Sam Parsons (a husband and father who goes on the evening strolls with his wife and newborn) suffered a broken arm and facial cuts while driving home one night after working all day.

These potholes have put a serious strain on our neighborhood and are now causing physical harm on top of impacting the daily activity that normally occurs on it. I’d like to imagine that you would like to live on a safe and smooth road in your beautiful neighborhood; the same thing myself and the rest of my neighbors want.

It’s my hope that once you read this you’ll understand how important it is, not only to keep our neighborhood a beautiful place to live, but also a safe place to live. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this letter.

Best wishes,

Cameron Stickney

Freeport Recreation & Community Education Summer Day Camp

Dear Frank,

As someone who grew up as a camper at FRCE and now possess many of the qualities you are seeking for in this position, I think I’d be the perfect candidate.

For the past several years, I have regularly babysat my next door neighbors children; 4 children, ages 3 – 9, consisting of 3 boys and 1 girl. With this, I have gained the skills of being able to watch over multiple eccentric children while keeping them safe and having fun. I plan activities for the kids and I to do which include crafts, swimming, hiking, and many others.

Every day when I go over to see the kids, I am always in a positive mood and full of excitement, getting the kids excited with me for whatever it is I have planned for that day. I must include that I am a very punctual person with a strong drive to work and be challenged. I always show up early for my shift and stay later if ever needed.

Transportation wouldn’t be a problem, I have my own car and have had my licence for a few years now and also live close by. I am just under 10 minutes away from camp, so I’m able to be flexible if something were to come up and I was needed, it wouldn’t take long for me to be able to get there.

I have had CPR and First Aid training to be prepared for anything that could happen. I have had the unfortunate experience of performing CPR on someone while I was at a diner and although it wasn’t something I’d hoped to do, I know that in a situation that calls for quick thinking, staying calm, and acting fast, I’m perfect for the job. Also, with 4 kids always running around and being active, I have lots of experience with First Aid; cleaning wounds, patching things up, disinfecting, etc.

My ability to multitask has also improved as I have 4 children full of life always running around, helping me be able to keep an eye on everyone and keep them safe, attend to whatever needs they possessed, and also be someone they could come to if they needed advice, help, or just someone to vent to.

I may not have worked previously as a camp counselor, but I have experience with kids as well as skills I’ve gained and improved working with them.

I look forward to speaking to you about this position. You can reach me at (234) 567-8901 or at position.seeking@gmail.com

Sincerely,

Jane Smith
